A and D String Violin Necklace, 19" (VN003)
Strings play a pivotal role in all Glass Heart String Choir music—from pianos to guitars to harps to violins, strings produce the sounds we create and capture. Their lives on our instruments are often brief, but we believe they can become beautiful, permanent objects of art after they cease making beautiful sounds. This necklace is a bright, polished piece that sits approximately 1.5 to 1.75 inches below the clavicle. It pairs well with v-neck and crew necklines and is complimentary to number of fabrics and colors. This necklace is made from violin A and D strings (specifically a Pirastro Evah Pirazzi A and D strings). We love these strings because they have an intensive, brilliant sound that adds warmth to every passage. A strings are aluminum wound and D strings are silver wound with synthetic cores. This dual plating gives this necklace a dimensional feel with two silver loops that catch the light a little differently. Due to the delicate outer winding, we recommend avoiding submerging these strings in water for long periods. A and D strings are just over 1 mm wide, and this necklace features tri-wrapped interlocking rings connected with tarnish resistant brass artistic wire to aluminum oval chain with lobster clasp. Violin strings are changed every four to six months, so their less frequent change over and shorter overall length means we produce fewer violin string pieces than other types. Like guitar string pieces, these strings have also been used to write, record, or perform songs we love (and that we hope you love, too!). Each piece is handmade by our violinist and producer, Katie, and as such, each has individual character which we tried to capture in these photographs. Katie works to feel the natural bend of each string to find the right size and shape of each piece, so no two are alike. We hope you find the one that's right for you!
